Love And Loss…Turning To The Plant Kingdom For Comfort & Counsel

Many days I feel steeped in my own experiences of deep loss these past 6 months, stirred by others’ Facebook posts about the loss of a loved one, the loss of a devoted pet, the loss of health, the loss of a way of life.

My husband’s death in December was followed several months later by the death of my precious Corazon, my black lab/coyote mix, who was my loyal and loving companion for over 10 years.  Add that to the impending sale of my Santa Fe house and a move to live full-time at my place in AZ, (not to mention running Wisdom of the Earth), and you can see that a lot of “processing” is happening in my mind and in my heart right now!

I have been so blessed to have my loyal companions from the plant kingdom at my side through all of this.  What would I have done without Rosewood to ease the heartache?  Frankincense for strength, Laurel Leaf for courage, Leonardo’s Lavender for calm and sleep?  Geranium for new beginnings (when you are ready).  Those are but a taste of the essential oil choices that have comforted me and counseled me though this period.  Yes, counseled me.

I think many people understand the comfort available through the use of pure, potent essential oils…Ylang Ylang was another that soothed my physical heart as well as my emotional heart.  Lime, Mexican beautifully offers comfort in the face of grief, pain or worry.  These are my “go-to” essences for worry or grief…I know I can turn to them and they will beautifully do their job each and every time that I ask.

But, counsel?  For some, I know, this possibility may be a bit of a stretch.  Others may believe in the concept that pure essential oils, applied with intention, can communicate with us through feelings or messages, but have never personally had this powerful experience.  I was delighted the other day, when, answering an emailed question from a client about which oil would be best for her situation, she responded to my response with the following:  “I realized I could ask the OILS which would be best, and I was given that guidance clearly!”  I was thrilled that their advice coincided with mine, but even more thrilled that she had thought to do that!!    Some people use their pendulum to facilitate the communication process, accessing their higher self or other sources of wisdom through that beautiful tool of consciousness.  Visit my website to see some of the lovely pendulums we have, if that interests you.

Given the pandemic we have collectively and individually experienced, not to mention the wildfires, tornadoes, floods, and violence that have deeply affected so many locales in this country, loss seems to be permeating almost everyone’s life.  Some of the oils I have already mentioned can help to soothe and comfort us, physically, emotionally and spiritually.  Other wonderful ones are Blood Orange, Lavender, Highland (any of the three elevations), Buddha Wood, Scotch Pine and Rose.  If you have had wonderful support from others in our wonderful collection of essential oils, I would love to hear your story!  And, while literally all essential oils help to facilitate communication with the unseen world and the natural world, I have found that Spikenard, Ylang Ylang, Blue Tansy and White Sage or White Spruce  are excellent choices if you are somewhat new to this opportunity.

And it is an opportunity.  The ancient ones taught that we are the children of the Plants & Trees…they were on this planet before we were, and one of their purposes is to protect and heal humankind.  To tap into their ancient wisdom is an exquisite opportunity to connect and learn from another species.  Anyone who has had an incredible bond with a dog, cat, horse, etc., has no doubt benefitted from that experience in ways which include learning from them.

So anoint yourself with one of your favorite essences, or some of the ones suggested in this e-news, and tap in to the wisdom and love of the Plant Kingdom.  Ask that your grief be lifted, transformed.  Also ask what can be learned from the loss or losses you have experienced, and how they might lead you in new or rediscovered directions.  Everything happens for a reason.  Let the sorrow or shock or trauma of the losses in your life transform into choices or directions that honor that which was lost and give purpose to the self-reflection and growth that you experienced.

I will leave with a picture of me and my beautiful Corazon, taken a couple of years ago here at our Farm.

With love, Audre
