Basil (Holy) Essential Oil…Ancient Spiritual Guide: Essence 14 of my “Julie & Julia” Inspired Goal to Blog about all 240 of the Wisdom of the Earth Aromatherapy Essences

November 16th, 2009

Surrounded by….Chocolate???

Holy Basil…I usually describe her scent as “peppery”, to distinguish her from the morechocolate swirl common Basils — Exotic, Sweet & True. But this night, as I allow her drops to fall on my crown chakra and then gently rub several more over my heart, I am enveloped in the scent of CHOCOLATE. The scent is ebbing now, but just minutes ago, the aroma of chocolate was overwhelming…basil with a strong hint of chocolate. Incredible!! I may need to start describing her as decadent!!

Holy Basil…Ancient Rites, A Guide to the Spirit World

Although Holy Basil shares many of the attributes of the more common Basils (digestion, headaches, muscle aches, anti-inflammatory), I most often use her for her more emotional and spiritual support. Her botanical name, Ocimum basilicum sanctum, reveals the recognition of her use in ancient rituals & ceremonies. She walks with the unseen, and is a powerful guide to the spirit world. Holy Basil allows us to access cellular memory, and she reveals our past over many lifetimes. Annoint yourself with her in a quiet, sacred space, and she will surely and safely take you to the other side.

Holy Basil helps bring the troubled heart into harmony with Earth Mother. Whether the rhythm has sped up or is irregular in nature, She is there to soothe and restore balance.

graphic mind openingShe is also a strong and insightful spiritual teacher. Holy Basil remembers the lessons shown by our experiences, whether in this life, or another. She will bring us to that remembrance if we are open to see the part we have played in the situation. Taking responsibility is a huge part of spiritual awakening, otherwise, the lessons are lost on us.

Purification, Clarity & Supporting our Soul Purpose

She is a purifier of the first degree…she enters through the bloodstream, purifying the river of life. On a spiritual & emotional level, she shines a light on bad decisions and bad players in our life. Are we ready to rid ourselves of those toxins, as well, she asks?? If we are, and we use her to support us in that endeavor, we will be gifted with a clarity of purpose that will allow us to more easily identify those choices that do not support — or even worse — are contrary to the purpose held in our heart.

Holy Basil. Quite simply, a Life Coach with a capital “L”… not restricted to this life, or to the here and now, but far-reaching in her knowledge of who we truly are. It is empowering to be seen by her, understood by her, supported by her and guided by her in our soul quest. Thank you, Holy Basil, for making this a more delicious journey on several levels!

Basil (Exotic) essential oil… An Essence for Opening and Expanding: Essence 13 of my “Julie & Julia” Inspired Goal to Blog about all 240 of the Wisdom of the Earth Aromatherapy Essences

November 10th, 2009

Exotic Basil, Widely Known for Sore Muscles & Digestive Issues

j0438790Exotic Basil is a powerful essential oil often used by aromatherapists to ease tight muscles and sore joints. Opening, opening, opening. She gets to the core and begins a release that gently but persistently opens everything from that center outward. While she is also good for digestive issues, her propensity to irritate the skin of the stomach often leads me to use her less intense sisters (True Basil, Sweet Basil) for this purpose. But layered with Spike Lavender and Cornmint, for example, she does an incredible job of releasing muscle spasms and bringing relief to stiff necks and frozen shoulders.

Our Ocimun basilicum, the botanical name for this plant, hails from India. She effectively fights viruses, so you know she is no push-over. Because she can cause skin irritation on more tender skin types, or sensitive areas, many use her on the soles of the feet, from whence she strides into the far reaches of the body and does her work on our behalf.

The Spiritual Side of Exotic Basil

j0438720Mind blowing? Feels that way…but probably mind OPENING says it best. I just put about 8 drops of Exotic Basil on my crown chakra, and 5 or so on my neck/chest area. I am opening, opening, opening. But it is a centered type of opening, where I feel safely anchored to the Earth, yet I am opened to all that is.

Now the heat kicks in. My crown chakra is tingling and my neck feels warm. Normally I would have layered her with a cool (yin) essence on either side of her, but, wanting to experience her in her purity and singularity for the sake of this blog, I am feeling her spiciness and warmth. The warmth has a pulsing, inward sensation, counterbalancing the opening I experienced just a few moments before. Now I am being brought back to MY center. It feels like an affirmation. I am “abuzz”, if you can picture that.

So…what do these “facts” about Exotic Basil (and all of these sensations) mean? To me, Basil is telling us that she takes on a journey of expansion — our thoughts, our feelings, our vision. Are we confined to our comfort zone, or are we willing to stick out necks out?? Exotic Basil encourages us to push the boundaries in areas that call to us…find out what the reward will be! She also reminds us that the stronger connection we have to HOME…that which we love and which defines us…the safer these explorations outside of our comfort zone will be. So, the stronger our core, our foundation, the more support we have for venturing out and tasting more of life than we have felt to do before. I am tempted to say that she is whispering “You CAN go home again”, so do not fear learning that takes you afar. Bring your wisdom back with you to the place of your heart and enrich your community with it.

Exotic Basil for Accessing Past Lives

Exotic Basil is also an essence that can support delving deeply into past life experiences. She guides the inward journey into that vast storehouse of experiences that underlie our present existence. Used during meditation or massage (times during which many are at their most open), Exotic Basil can bring into our awareness flashes of memory or visual imagery that unlock past life information. In wisdom, we can consider how this might apply to patterns or experiences in our current life and find insight into how they do or do not serve us.

Exotic Basil is a dynamic essence that is about change, whether via opening to new experiences or reflecting on ancient ones. Allow her to assist you in opening…and see what the future (and the past) might bring!

Balsam Poplar essential oil… A Powerful Companion: Essence 12 of my “Julie & Julia” Inspired Goal to Blog about all 240 of the Wisdom of the Earth Aromatherapy Essences

October 22nd, 2009

balsam poplarBalsam Poplar’s Encouragement to Us

Balsam (poplar), botanically known as populus balsamifera, is one of our more expensive tree essences, but as she said to me when I put her on my third eye and over my heart…”I am worth it because I CAN DO IT.” Hmmm, my mind got engaged and I wondered, does she mean I (meaning me) can do it? Or I (meaning her) can do it? My heart took over and allowed me to see that it is both, because she is going to do “it” through me as part of her earth wisdom, when I partake of her.

An Ally for H1N1 as well as the Common Cold

Anyway, what is the “it” that she can do? Well, for starters, she is fabulous for colds and flus…and who isn’t thinking about the flu, with all of the discussion of the Swine Flu swirling around us?? She is certainly a power house. One whiff of her (or one dab on your heart) will tell you that. But it is a gentle power. It comes from within you, within moments of putting her on.

Addressing Dermatitis and Other Skin Problems

She is also amazing for skin erruptions. My one recent experience with her related to this healing property. I was in AZ, and had a horrific inflammation under my left breast. Now, anyone who knows me knows that I am pretty ample in this department, so a large part of the problem was the flesh of the breast lying directly on the flesh underneath the breast (time and size will do that to you!!) The infection seemed to be emanating from a small, colorless mole directly on the underside crease of my breast, and radiating out in a circle from there (with about a three inch radius).

I figured my bra had rubbed against the mole, as it was oozing fluid and a little blood. The affected circle of skin was a very angry red in color, and quite tender to the touch. Pretty scary stuff. I immediately started thinking breast cancer, you name it. I tried several of the essences that I usually would use for a skin infection or eruption (Blue Chamomile, Rose Hip Seed Oil, among them), but nothing had really shifted the energy or the appearance of this infection.

The night I really became distressed over this, I was just about to turn out the light and go to sleep, when I decided to look through the dozen or so essences on my bedside table to see if there was anything different I could try. Now, the interesting thing is…I use the essences next to my bed all of the time…that is why they are there! My Spikenard and Wild Chamomile for sleeping, Birch (Sweet), Peppermint (FR) and Black Spruce for sore muscles, etc. However, this particular night, there was one bottle in the very front…Balsam Poplar. Hmmm, I thought…what is this doing there? I didn’t remember bringing it from the office and I was a bit baffled as to what it was doing there with my “old standards.” Curious, I looked at the label (ok, I’m “busted”…Balsam Poplar was NOT one I used frequently)…and what did I see but “dermatitis”. Well, what did I have to lose? I put several drops on the area, and then tucked the hem of my soft, cotton pajama top under my breast so that the skin could “breathe” during the night.

Much to my suprise and relief, when I woke up in the morning, the red color of the skin had greatly diminished, and it was not as sore to the touch as it had been the night before. I applied Balsam Poplar again before leaving for the day, and again before bed that night. Well…to her immense credit, the infection/irritation was completely gone in about 3 full days/nights of using her. She certainly convinced me of her powerful ability to address skin problems!

A Guide Out of the Valleys of Life

Dark ValleyOn the spiritual side, she is a powerful companion (guide) to lead you out of life’s valleys. She has the ability to give us the strength to begin anew…to find that reservoir of courage and hope that allows us to put the past behind us (the event, not the lesson) and begin tackling life again with passion and confidence. When we encounter a serious setback, or are brought to our knees by the betrayal of a loved one or the discouragement of a friend or colleague, Balsam Poplar will provide the support and trust that were not found in our human circle.

Yes, she is well worth it, because she can DO IT…and so can we, with her loving support and guidance.

Much love, Audre Gutierrezgraduation-011

Balsam Peru essential oil…Thick, Rich & Empowering. Essence 11 of my “Julie & Julia” Inspired Goal to Blog about all 240 of the Wisdom of the Earth Aromatherapy Essences

September 25th, 2009

A little about Balsam Peru’s “Physical Self”

Wow. When I say “thick”…I am not just “whistling Dixie”! Maybe I should say THICK. You need to pull out the orifice reducer to access the essence. My first inclination is that she has a “user friendly index” of about 4 (out of 10). She quickly admonishes me by saying “But I’m worth it.”

She is dark and rich and luscious (but a little sticky, as well). I am also about to suggest that you layer her with another essence…one that has a thin viscosity…so that she doesn’t “drag” when you apply her to your skin and attempt to smooth her out. Balsam Peru steps in again. “Do not “thin” me without a medicinal purpose in mind” she says. (i.e., you may use another essence with her, if that essence will enhance achievement of the healing goal you have…for example, Balsam Peru is anti-inflammatory. So, if you were going to use her on a sprained, swollen ankle, you could layer her with Lavender, Spike and/or Birch, Sweet, both of which are also very anti-inflammatory as well as highly analgesic. This would make her easier to “spread”, but that would not be the main purpose…the layering would also bring more anti-inflammatory power to your situation, as well as pain-relief power. ) She is not “into” changing her texture –changing who she is — solely for ease of use. But she will eagerly work with other essences to help someone who needs her.

Authenticity with a touch of Flexibilty…A Win-Win Situation

I think this is a powerful message for us all. Do not change who you are purely for someone else’s convenience…but be flexible when the situation calls for it. I remember a presentation skills class I took early in my career. The instructor gave me a very valuable gift; in so many words, she said to me what I just said to you. Here’s what happened. I have always spoken quickly…so quickly, that many, many people advised me to “slow down.” But that wasn’t me! So, either I tried to slow my speech, and ended up sounding somewhat fake, or I spoke at my normal speed and felt “guilty” because I had been told it made me sound insecure, or made it difficult for people to understand me. Talk about a “lose-lose” situation!! Enter this wonderful teacher.

I gave my first talk for feedback, and she observed that I talked very quickly. “Here we go again” I thought…”someone else telling me that I need to slow down.” She continued…”I believe you do that because you are intelligent, and process information very quickly; also, you are enthused about what you are talking about…your passion and enthusiasm are reflected in the speed with which you speak. These are both very positive attributes, and I DON’T WANT YOU TO LOSE THEM BY SLOWING YOUR SPEECH. However, I would suggest that you vary your speed a bit…go a little slower in the introductory information, or where you are giving details, and talk more quickly when you are discussing the benefits of a recommendation, telling a personal story for human interest, or seeking to inspire your audience to take a certain action. Learn to emphasize key phrases and create visuals by your words…acheive understanding through emphasis rather than slowing down. Then, your enthusiasm and passion will work positively for you and your audience.” She was telling me to be who I was, but to demonstrate flexibility in those situations where a different approach would be more effective!

When Change “Becomes Us”

I took her advice…it made sense to me and preserved an important part of my identity…and became a respected and sought-after speaker in the many companies I worked for in the years that followed. So…we may sometimes make changes that, once we become comfortable with them, make us more of who we truly are than our previous way of being. We are empowered by the change we have chosen to make…and that is the best change of all!

A Price We Pay for the Masks We Wear

Balsam Peru is also good for balancing blood pressure…a condition often caused by stress. Can you imagine the stress of being in the world in a way that does not truly reflect who you are? A job that compromises your values, or does not allow you to express your creativity? A relationship that brings out the worst in you, or keeps your “light under a bushel”, versus one that makes you shine? A location that does not inspire you, or, perhaps, where you need to fear for your safety, versus a place that makes you feel that you are “home” whenever you drive down your street or walk in your back door.

The need or pressure to be someone whom we ARE NOT to meet the requirements of a job or to satisfy others takes a toll on our physical and spiritual health. Balsam Peru is there to say Be True to Yourself! I think you will be surprised to see how many times a day you may edit yourself or alter your behavior. Just ask yourself…am I being flexible, and being just another part of “me”…or am I compromising who I truly am? If you get to many “yeses” to the compromise option, it is time to take stock of the environment you have created for yourself. Because if you created one environment, you can always create another! One that welcomes your true self, in all of its beauty and authenticity. One in which you can be whole.

Balsam gurjun…You can count on me! Essence 10 of my “Julie & Julia” Inspired Goal to Blog about all 240 of the Wisdom of the Earth Aromatherapy Essences

September 19th, 2009

audre facing westCalling forth the energies of the West in the Medicine Wheel

TO BLOG OR NOT TO BLOG? THAT IS THE QUESTION

I went to bed last night feeling quite a bit under the weather; when I awoke, I was much better, thanks to two auricular treatments with the oils. I felt that it was not a good day to blog about the essences, as I am rarely sick, and really feel “not me” when I am. However, Balsam gurjun was not to be denied!! When I sat down at the computer to check emails, I was drawn to write…sick or not! So…here I am.

Balsam gurjun for respiratory problems

I placed Balsam gurjun all around my throat (I am dealing with a respiratory “thing”, so I thought…good! She will help with that!), and then placed several drops on my crown chakra. I am feeling a definite energy around my ears and lymph glands, so she is going to work quickly on the congestion I am feeling there.

Balsam gurjun’s message: You can count on me!

But it is the energy on my crown chakra that will not be denied!! The phrase “You can count on me” ran through my mind as soon as the drops of Balsam gurjun essential oil touched my scalp. I am feeling a pulling at my crown…almost like there is a golden string attached to the top of my head and someone (Balsam gurjun??) is tugging on it. The pulsating energy is palpable, and not entirely comfortable! There is an urgency there…maybe this is what couldn’t wait until tomorrow. OK, Balsam gurjun…what do you want to say to the world??

I am being reminded that my “usual” use of her is to take the “bite” out of insect stings, or scratches caused by tree branches or bushes while hiking. When you put her on something red and irritated…she immediately goes to work to calm the hurt and irritation. Literally in seconds. As always, it is helpful to take that physical experience into the emotional and spiritual realm to see how those properties will benefit us there.

Championing the Vulnerable

Ahhh. “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” Although my mother always said that to me when the kids at school would say something unkind, I never really got the hang of putting that into practice! The words DID hurt…expecially if those words struck a vulnerable area. So…Balsam gurjun is telling me that she can help us when the words or deeds of others hurt us. She can do that by comforting us, but also by helping us become strong…strong enough to stand up for our truth, or strong enough to make needed changes in areas where we are vulnerable.

There was a very sad story in the news today about a mother who killed herself and her daughter to escape the decade-long taunting of her family by young punks in her neighborhood. Some of the taunting was verbal, some was physical (e.g., egging the house, putting firecrackers in the mailbox, breaking windows). The mother had reported dozens of these incidents to the local authorities, but had not received much, if any, help. The story ended in tragedy.

I sense that Balsam gurjun isn’t only talking to us of our OWN hurts, our OWN vulnerabilities; she is urging us to be strong for others who need us, as well. To stand up for those who are victimized, to be the voice for those who have been silenced.

Find in your heart something or someone you can truthfully and passionately champion. Place Balsam gurjun on your heart to support you in your efforts to contribute to a greater good or to right an obvious wrong. She is in YOUR corner; she is YOUR champion. You can do it. She will bring the strength of the Plants & Trees to your aid; She will support you in calling forth the guidance of the angels. You will not fight for your cause, whatever you choose, alone. You can count on her.

Much love, Audre

Artemisa Essential Oil…Essence 9 of my “Julie & Julia” Inspired Goal to Blog about all 240 of the Wisdom of the Earth Aromatherapy Essences in 365 Days

September 8th, 2009

“What’s eating you???” I am searching for a “one liner” to capture the special essence of Artemisia (artemisia vulgaris Linn), and this pops up. I know she is wonderful for physical things like repelling insects, and addressing parasites (especially worms). She is also a wonder of aromatherapy in that she tackles the mysterious world of the brain…brain functioning on the physical level, and balancing the heart and mind. So if it is mind chatter that is “eating you up”, she is your queen.

The 8-10 drops I put on my crown chakra are doing an interesting tango in my brain. There is a refreshing quality to her sensation…kind of an effervescence, yet I feel subdued in a calm, not coerced, way. She has somehow managed to lighten my cerebral load. Now the top of my head feels like it is being pinched, gently. What is she attempting to remind me of?? Since I am a person who pretty much lives in my heart (though I am quite analytical, my heart definitely rules), I think I am being guided to let my mind weigh in more. To honor the mind more, as I have definitely joined the ranks of those who are quite disillusioned with where the “great minds” of our civilization have gotten us.

I am being told by Artemisia essential oil that, like anything, the issue is not black and white. That there have been some stunning achievements by the thinkers of our society, to help counterbalance the GMO wonders of the world. I am being softly chastised for letting my disillusionment with science and business cloud my knowing that NOTHING is one way. Everything has a purpose, even things (like GMOs) with which I profoundly disagree. I am being “forced” to consider the very positive groundswell these attacks upon our Mother Earth have spawned…one of those being the “back to the land” movement, of which our tiny “farm” (which has yet to grow an edible thing) is a small part. Nothing pleases me more than to sit with my chickens…see their little squabbles (ahhh, what a great appreciation I now have for the etimology of the phrase “pecking order”), hear their beautiful little sounds, see their curiosity and delight with the day’s table scraps. For me, it doesn’t get simpler or more satisfying that this.

Artemisia, from Nepal, is also wonderful for respiratory issues. She reminds us that breath feeds the body, including the mind. This essential oil is a messenger for the yogis…a bridge between the physical breath and the sweet state of bliss that accompanies a beautifully crafted yoga pose. If we cannot breath fully and deeply…what is it that we are holding?? Do we fear to receive or do we fear to let go??

Artemisia helps the brain that is struggling with memory loss, damage from stroke, or from degenerative diseases like dementia. She helps to restore the brain physically, as well as to seek the perfect balance with the heart and the spirit. Who among us wouldn’t love to feel that we have properly balanced what we think with what we feel? Artemisia helps us to walk that line beautifully, with grace and agility. She “spots us” , keeps us on track, lets us know that we are ALL ABOUT BALANCE, both internal and external. What an incredible coach is available in that little bottle.

Arnica montana Mountain Tobacco Essential Oil…Essence 8 of my “Julie & Julia” Inspired Goal to Blog about all 240 of the Wisdom of the Earth Aromatherapy Essences in 365 Days

Blogging on Aromatherapy Took A Back Seat for a Few Days!

audreI am feeling today like I am getting a little behind in my blogging of all of the Wisdom of the Earth Essential Oils…while I have 365 days to cover around 240 essences/hydrosols, my trip to Pittsburgh to visit family and teach a Level 1 Medicinal Aromatherapy class set me back a little! I couldn’t get my computer to work there, and then Leonard and I were busy, after the class, spending time with my mom, sister, nephews, and my son and daughter, who came to Pittsburgh from California to see their grandma. She was 86 on her July 13th birthday, and with my son having his 33rd birthday in August (22nd) and mine (the “big 6-0″) in July (29th) we thought it would be a great opportunity to have something of a family reunion!!

A Sneak Preview of FearlessAromatherapy.com — My Aromatherapy Blog!

So…here I am, back in New Mexico…so good to be home, and so good to be back in the routine that allows me to take a special essence, commune with it, and share the experience with you! Oh! One other bit of news…I have named my Aromatherapy Blog “Fearless Aromatherapy”. It feels right to me! I have been called “fearless” many times in the past…in my next blog, I will tell the story that affirmed within me that Fearless Aromatherapy was exactly the message I wanted to send!

Arnica montana — An Ancient Wound Healer

But now…drum roll…to Arnica montana. Arnica is made from the flowers and root (interesting combination!!!) of a plant colloquially known as Mountain Tobacco. She is widely known as a powerful herb for wound healing, sprains, bruises, and pain from torn or pulled muscles. The essential oil version of this incredible herb is thick and black…no amount of patience is going to bring it out of the orifice reducer. I remove it, and smear a few dabs of the greenish-black, syrupy liquid on my wrists.

All is Not Lost

Wow. I am “taken down a notch” energetically. Arnica communicates to me (though I don’t know exactly how) that she is powerful enough to heal a spirit that has literally given up hope. When you’ve lost heart or lost hope…she is the one to turn to. I am getting sensations of great loss…losing entire families, villages, businesses, precious children before their time (by our earthly standard). Her mantra is “All Is Not Lost.” I see the dark side of things…huge disappointment, cruelty, unsavory actions based on greed or anger or revenge. She is telling me that nothing is out of reach of her calm and powerful healing. She takes our deepest wounds, our darkest fears into her darkness, and by the alchemy of the plants and trees, transforms them into light.

The Power in the Valleys of Life

This is not an unsettling journey with her, but a surprisingly calming one. Because we will all face the “dark night of the soul” at some point (or points) in our journey to evolve on this plane, there is a peace in knowing that we will have an aromatherapy friend to help us learn our lessons there, and begin the process of bringing light to that dark place.

Arnica montana reminds me of my frequent message that it is not necessary or even advisable to live our lives striving to avoid the depths that are possible (death of a loved one, tragedy, betrayal, etc.), but instead, to live them knowing that, should we experience those depths, we are stronger than we ever dreamed possible, and that we are not alone. Arnica montana is there to work with that darkness, that pain and find the purpose and the message in it.

Blessings, Audre

The Powerful Essential Oil Anise Seed (anisum officinalis)…Essence 7 of my “Julie & Julia” Inspired Goal to Blog about all 240 of the Wisdom of the Earth Aromatherapy Essences in 365 Days

August 25th, 2009

Anise Seed…the Seed of Life

Aromatherapy enthusiasts…join me today on a very deep, inward journey brought to you by Anise Seed…or as she whispered to me when I put her on just now…The Seed of Life. That phrase has many meanings, depending upon which level you are considering. She is known for her hormonal balancing properties…so the seed of life could certainly refer to her ability to create a harmonious space for new life to begin. On a spiritual level, the seed of life can be those thoughts, those words, those deeds expressed from our hearts that take root in the life of another and change that life.

I remember when I was in my early twenties. I had recently started my first “real” job at Educational Testing Service (ETS) in Princeton, NJ. The people there were quite nice and, for the most part, enjoyable to work with. There was one gentleman I used to pass in the halls quite frequently; we would always smile at each other and say “hello”, even though we did not actually know each other. Several years later, he became very ill, and passed away shortly after that. I was talking about his illness with a co-worker, and she made some reference to how sad I must be feeling, as we were such good friends.

I was surprised at her statement, hardly knowing him except for our occasional heart-felt hellos. I then learned that he had spoken to her about me…and to others as well, about how, no matter how bad his day might be going, when I would smile and say hello, it would brighten his day and tend to lighten his mood. I remember being shocked that someone, whom I hardly knew, had felt a difference in his life from an action I had barely considered. A difference large enough, that he spoke to others about it. That was a huge lesson to me about the power of our actions, no matter how small, relative to others.

So, the Seed of Life can be seeds that we “plant” (figuratively) in terms of ideas, words, a supportive hug, etc., that become something larger than the initial action. They take on a life of their own inside the life of another.

These seeds can also be planted in our own lives…plans that we have, dreams that we have, commitments to certain future actions that we share with others…and through that sharing…strengthen the resolve to honor that commitment within ourselves.

Anise Seed essential oil for the Circulatory and Digestive Systems

Anise Seed is described in the Wisdom of the Earth Reference Guide as being good for the heart…balancing the rhythm of the heart, tonifing the heart, and regulating blood pressure. It is also good for the digestive system…helping relieve the buildup of gas and helping to cleanse and maintain the colon. While literally ALL pure, medicinal-grade essential oils are balancers for the body and spirit, I sense from Anise Seed that she is deeply gifted in this regard.

The Power of our Inner World…accessed by Anise Seed essential oil

When I put several drops of her on my throat and upper stomach, I immediately got a vision of going down into my womb, deep, deep down into the center of my being. I could hear my heartbeat, and felt the rhythmic pulsing of that inner world. When we are born, we leave nine months of being surrounded by a warm, soft, rhythmic, pulsing world…and are thrust into a world of an uncountable number of external stimuli. We learn, through our acculturation, to value and attend to the messages we receive from the outer world, and to be less attuned to the messages from our inner world. With the hook-ups to our musical toys, it is rare to see anyone walking or running without ear phones in his or her ears…as though our inner thoughts and the inner processing of the images we pass as we walk or run need to be shut out by music or other audio.

Anise Seed returns us to that inner world, and the knowing that is contained there. Trust Anise Seed to take you to the exact place in your inner world where the answers to your questions lie, where the memories you seek are stored. She is your guide to your inner world…let her take you there.

Much love, Audre Gutierrez

The Amazing Essential Oil Anise Raven (ravensara anisata)…Essence 6 of my “Julie & Julia” Inspired Goal to Blog about all 240 of the Wisdom of the Earth Aromatherapy Essences

August 20th, 2009

Aromatherapy enthusiasts, I am ready to jump right in to my experience with Anise Raven essential oil. I put about 5 drops of Anise Raven on my chest and neck, and a couple on my wrists and rub them together. Immediately, I am calmed, though I did not know, before, that I was not! Sometimes, we do not know what we need until we receive it!! So…I felt the calmness, in waves, wash over me, wash through me.

Anise Raven is noted on the lable as Yin+ on the temperature “scale” (Yin being cool to warm in temperature…so Yin, in this case, is subtly warmer than the typical “warm” end of the Yin temperature range). I can feel it, for sure…even my lips are tingling a little.

Anise Raven Essential Oil for Hormonal Balance, Calming, Female Reproduction, Digestion & Sexuality

In aromatherapy, Anise Raven is known (and it is noted in our Wisdom of the Earth Reference Guide) for hormal balance for both men and women, and for all things associated with female reproduction…the menses cycle, conception, pregnancy, labor, and birth. The calmness I felt was reflective of her ability to calm muscle spasms, and to soothe irregular beating of the heart. She was definitely “heart calming.”

Following the anti-spasmodic and calming properties a little further down in the human body, Anise Raven is also good for colitis and flatulence …soothing irritated stomach lining and colon.

I felt her sassy spiciness…so THAT is the kind of aphrodisiac she is! :) Anise Raven is definitely a hormonal aphrodisiac…stimulating a physical (versus purely emotional) reaction that might have been dampened by over work, stress or physical debility. This is one essential oil that would be great to share with your partner…both of you putting a few drops on the soles of your feet, and layering it (because it is a little warm) just above the pubic bone over another aphrodisiac, like Ylang Ylang, or a calming but uplifting Yin essence like Geranium. Ooh-la-la. Enough said!

Anise Raven Essential Oil for Emotions: Aromatherapy to support Authenticity, Communicating Feelings

Spiritually, Anise Raven essential oil carries you to a place of authenticity. For those who cover up their emotions, or “make nice” when they are really angry or hurt, this can mean taking the cover off of the cauldron of your gut and finally releasing your true feelings. This does not have to be unkindly or angrily done…just authentically done. Find the words that respect your feelings AND the feelings of others. You may lose some “friends” in the process, but you will gain those who relish being with authentic people who are willing to communicate and relate at much deeper than a superficial level. That will be a mighty relief to those of you who have been afraid to be whom you really are for fear of losing those close to you.

Anise Raven is a small tree…proving that, in aromatherapy, good things do come in small packages! The essential oil is made from her bark and stems, and comes from Madagascar. So…She has come halfway around the world to share her calm and balance with you via aromatherapy…to help you peel through the layers to get to your true self! Anise Raven speaks to sexuality lovingly but spiritedly…helping you get out of preconceived notions or roles in this area of your life, as well.

Hmmm. Anise Raven pure essential oil …quite a little vixen, but in a good way! Saucy, spirited, but, at heart, a lover of harmony and deep balance.

Love to you from the plants & trees…Audre Gutierrez

Angelica Root Essence 5 of my “Julie & Julia” Inspired Goal to Blog about all 240 of the Wisdom of the Earth Aromatherapy Essences

August 18th, 2009

Had a fabulous weekend, teaching 8 wonderful women about the incredible world of medicinal aromatherapy! I was eager to get back to my blogging project…blogging about the 200+ Wisdom of the Earth essences, one at a time! The fifth essence has a botanical name that clearly “announces” who Angelica Root really is…angelica archangelica. Just typing that gives me chills.

I open the bottle…a 5 ml, small bottle, carring a power house of an essence. I breath in, deeply. In a couple of seconds, the energy shifts, and all of a sudden, I feel that I am being drawn into the bottle…into the essence of Angelica Root. That there is a space within her into which I can fall. Kind of a “down the rabbit hole” experience. The next sensation is that of being “filled up.” That she is a well to drink from, figuratively speaking.

Whew. All of this in but a few moments. I recall an account of Angelica Root in one of Stephen Buhner’s books…he talked about the plant having a hollow stem, and that, shamanically (though I do not believe he used that word), it signified that the plant was useful in working with infertility. I have sometimes used the essence in that way with certain clients…as a support, physically, for them to become pregnant. That she is known for hormonal balance, especially estrogen, is surely helpful for many.

I find, also, that Angelica Root can bring the issue of WHY the client (or the couple of which she is a part) WANTS a baby. I was once moved to ask a client if she wanted to become pregnant to fill a void in her marriage. She was shocked, at first, then moved to tears. She looked at me with realization on her face, saying, “now I know why I have not been able to become pregnant…I have wanted to for the wrong reason.” A huge insight…brought to you by Anglica Root.

A product of France (the origin of our essence of Angelica Root), The essential oil is for the Central Nervous System, mental clarity (ah, ha! perhaps the stimulus for the insight mentioned above), nausea, and migraines. She is anti-spasmodic (I can use her tonight on leg muscles that keep tightening..) and works on strengthing/balancing the higher chakras.

Amazingly, the hollow stem of the plant is suggestive of another of its uses…as is its botanical name. Angelica Root aids in opening/clearing channels for angelic manifestation. I remember getting a “hit” on an essence for a woman who came to my booth at a holistic health show in San Diego. She told me she could only afford ONE essence…and that she was a healer. I told her that I felt she should get Angelica Root…as it would make her a clear channel for angelic and other dimensional communication. She stared at me….then said….”every morning when I wake up, I ask the Universe to make me a “clear channel” for the wisdom of the ancients and the angelic realm. I can’t believe you tapped into that and knew that was what I aspire to!! ”

Angelica…what a wise one you are, and so generous waudre-gutierrezith your wisdom, if we will but ask and then listen. Thank you. With love and blessings, Audre
